Property Description
While at Hacienda Arroz you feel as if you've been transported miles and miles away from civilization. But in fact, you are only seven minutes from the lovely, small town of Santiago de Puriscal.
Land Area 15.3 Hectares (37.8 Acres)
Principal House 257 sq. meters (2,768 sq. ft.)
Constructed in 2004
This beautiful country home was designed and built by the current owners. Constructed of native stone and cypress, this stunning house has:
a master suite with bathtub and sink set in stone and large walk-in closet
two additional bedrooms (or bedroom and office)
an additional full bath
From the polished teak floors to the granite counter tops and top-of-the-line fixtures throughout, this home is a delight to be in.
The spacious great room serves as both living and dining room and includes vaulted ceilings, and a dramatic stone fireplace.
A service counter from the kitchen -- with its custom made hardwood cabinets -- opens into the dining area. The kitchen is a gourmet cook's dream with center island, ample counter and storage space, built-in wine rack, modern stainless steel finished appliances, and enough room for 3 or 4 busy cook's assistants!
Two huge covered terraces with stone floors in the front and back are the perfect place to enjoy the peace and privacy of the home, plus relish the 360Ί views of stunning unspoiled countryside.
Additional Structures:
Large stable with a tack room, surrounded by 2 acres of electric fenced pasture. Each of the three 12' x 12' stalls are lined with "stall skins" which reduce barn maintenance chores dramatically, and almost completely eliminate odors.
A 360 sq. ft. building, which is currently used as a flight cage for rehabilitating wildlife. This could easily be converted into a guest house or workshop.
A storage building of concrete and metal, 230 sq. ft.
A "crafts" building originally intended to be a pottery studio. 130 sq. ft. (It would make a wonderful children's play house!)
There are two large greenhouses, which the present owners use to grow vegetables hydroponically. Complete, working hydroponic systems included.
A small goat barn with an attractive, well fenced yard.
A large cage (7' x 10' and 8' tall) that has been used as a pre-release home for rehabilitated wildlife.
A 1,900 gallon water tank, part of the super-efficient water system, which delivers fresh, chemical-free water to the house and all the farm's buildings. A year-round spring on the property supplies all the farm's water needs.
The Great Extras:
The sales price will buy you a completely furnished house, down to the smallest detail, including an excellent art collection!

Santiago de Puriscal:
"The Real Costa Rica"
A short 7 minute drive from the farm, Santiago is a traditional agricultural community with extremely pleasant people; there is virtually no crime.
Though small, Santiago offers a selection of grocery and hardware stores, gas stations, and other shopping, banks, typical Costa Rican restaurants, pizza parlors, Chinese restaurants, veterinarians, municipal offices, an office of the national electric and telephone company, fire station, doctors, pharmacies, and a state clinic with 24 hour emergency services. Specialties for which Santiago is renowned are its saddle makers, wood workers, horses, locally grown fruits and vegetables, and chicharrones (fried pork or beef).
Santiago is a pleasant 45 minute drive on an excellent road from the upscale western suburbs of San Josι, Escazϊ and Santa Ana, which offer the best shopping in Costa Rica. There are excellent restaurants, a large mall, multi-screen movie theatre, and many stores selling goods imported from the U.S and around the world.
